For The Children

Warms the cockles.

The Children’s Crusade

In the year 1212 A.D., a young boy in France is said to have begun preaching throughout the countryside, claiming he had been visited in vision by Jesus Christ, who asked him to lead a new Crusade to the Holy Land to wrest it from the infidel Muslims.

What followed is a grotesque and poignant story of faith, innocence and exploitation, as the would-be Crusaders, most of them said to be children, were taken and sold into slavery by merchants purporting to help them get to Jerusalem.

I suppose that, since the modern Islamofascists are wont to appeal to the strong feelings that (apparently) still exist among Muslims regarding the Crusades, perhaps these children are seen as “little Saladins” doing their part to protect the “holy warriors”–each twice as tall and massing three times as much as their “protectors.”

UPDATE

In a related development, they’ve killed a teenaged girl who dared to watch the FIFA World Cup.
