A Fool & His iPhone are Seldom Parted

Just got one. In that it bestows godlike powers hitherto undreamed-of, I’m still assessing the implications.

Grandsons’ Pony League ball club is 3-0 (outscoring competition 30-11) and eldest daughter just announced her first pregnancy.

Coincidence? I think not.

A Fool And His Brown Shirt Are Seldom Parted

The Great Chill continues.

And the attacks on Governor Palin appear to be the primary focus of the “New Digital Brownshirts.”

The Left usually tips its hand long before they proceed to action. I have found Algore to be a wonderful barometer as to what to expect next from the enemies of freedom. When he gives a speech warning about what “the right” is planning, you can expect the Left to embark directly on that course within the next little while.

Meanwhile, it looks like Obama’s on constant spin-cycle, at least according to technology.

Left Foolishly Going Where They’ve Often Gone Before

The “concern” over soon-to-be-VP Candidate Sarah Palin, the Republican Governor of Alaska, by the Left (including their helpful minions in the MSM) has them once again stepping into territory that they’ve (a) never fully understood and (b) nearly always gotten themselves lost trying to negotiate.

An example of this is the bold initiative by the Co-Presidents Clinton in 1993 that attempted to transform this nation’s healthcare system into a bureaucratic entitlement replete with far more restrictions and culs-de-sac than ever (they claimed) the private health insurance system had perpetrated.

They believed their own press releases (released by their own press, in fact), reflecting the Left’s conventional wisdom that Ma and Pa America were at wit’s end trying to figure out how to take care of the health needs of their family. The Co-Presidents Clinton fully expected a grateful Ma and Pa A. to fall at their feet in abject gratitude.

What they got was something else again.

In the present case, the Left really believes its own disingenuous intonings that Republican Palin is “hypocritical” about what they (and only they, remember, ever use this term) call “family values.” To the Left, conservatives (which they consider all Republicans to be) are locked into this undeviating belief in personal behavior that admits of no error and allows for no human frailty.

To the Left, of course, this makes every Christian, or even observant Jew, instantly hypocritical because they think that religious don’t believe in human nature. To the Left, in fact, “human nature” is defined as behavior that can only be moderated by legislation. The Left sees no political advantage in personal freedom that doesn’t benefit their traditional consituencies (freedom to abort, freedom to engage in homosexual acts, freedom to express politically correct opinions, for example), so expression of human nature outside of their “permitted” list is subject to government control - and that’s what they think conservatives believe.

They simply think conservatives work from a different list.

The result is that they think that the foibles of conservatives are always covered up, just as they do their own. But conservatives have a greater potential to fall, so the Left thinks, because of their impossibly high standards. The next time a Leftist tells me that pro-lifers “regularly pay for abortions for their own daughters while telling everyone else that abortion is wrong” will be about the zillionth.

Governor Palin didn’t abort her own child, Trig, even when tests confirmed the near-certainty that he had Down Syndrome. And from all indications there was never any discussion of having the Palin’s daughter, Bristol, abort her own unborn child, conceived out of wedlock.

But the Left doesn’t see that. They have to work very hard to do it, but they manage to bend the light around the reality right in front of them and distort into various representations that support their distorted understanding of conservatives and what they believe.

In this case, it is “hypocrisy,” they say, because:

  • Gov. Palin doesn’t believe in sex education (DISTORTION OF THE FACT THAT: sex education of any kind doesn’t prevent preganancy when a young man and a woman engage in sexual intercourse. A secondary fact is that the state of Alaska actually mandates so-called “comprehensive sex education.” It is not plausible that Bristol Palin’s pregancy resulted from her ignorance of the birds and the bees).
  • The Palin family is supposed to be evangelical and evangelicals don’t believe in sex before marriage (DISTORTION OF THE FACT THAT: Christianity and nearly every other religious faith preaches abstinence before marriage, as well as repentance and penitance when sin is committed).
  • Gov. Palin - and every other conservative Christian - believes in government enforcement of her religious ideals, so she should be able to practice them in her own family (DISTORTION OF THE FACTS THAT: in the first place, every person who runs for public office has a set of beliefs and values that will certainly influence him or her in the way they govern. Only the Left thinks theirs are exempt from criticism because they’re “not religious” - at least not the way they define the word. In the second place, conservatives typically believe in leading by example not by government fiat. Ronald Reagan was the best most recent example of this, using his presidential pulpit to preach his own values. The Left doesn’t believe that works. They don’t believe in governing, they believe in ruling. This is one of the primary reason the Left loves dictators like Castro and Chavez. But it never occurs to the Left that one can preach a sermon without introducing binding legislation).
  • The Palin pregnancy flap was an “oopsie” that will cause McCain to “accept her offer to step down” from the VP slot (DISTORTION OF THE FACT THAT: first of all, the McCain campaign likely knew about it, and understands that “real Americans” don’t consider this to be a relevant issue in the political campaign; and also, that anyone without a political axe to grind realizes the tempest surrounding this “astounding news” is totally media-contrived and without legs).

So, there you have it. Once again, the Left will be left wondering why their political GPS isn’t working as they try to navigate in this strange land of “real America.” They expect this to be a deal-breaker, likely because they don’t realize that most Americans - yes, even religious conservatives - have regrettably had to deal with an unwanted pregancy without a single moment’s consideration given to abortion.

This is the real problem for the Left. They don’t have children. They don’t really like families that are “normal,” the kind that don’t need to come to government agencies for aid and support. They don’t understand anyone punishing themselves with a baby when they don’t have to.

They simply don’t understand their political opponents at all. And an unalterable rule of warfare, political or otherwise, is to attempt to understand your enemy to the greatest extent possible.

This is why the Dems continue to lose Presidential elections. They make one misstep after another based on underestimating the experience and understanding of the general public, which doesn’t count on Democrat political support as their own bound constituencies do.

My “Open Letter” To John McCain

I have attempted several times to post this comment to John McCain’s Campaign Blog, without success. I can only conclude that they have very smart filtering software that somehow will NOT allow anything other than a “glowing,” sycophantic love-note to go through.

So I’m posting it here, and I say again that I mean every word. I’m also going to “Trackback” every pertinent blog I can think of, because I’m so exercised about this topic!

Sen. McCain: I just made a contribution to your campaign. So far, I have contributed more money to you than I ever have any other candidate - and I am 50 years old.

That, I think, somewhat entitles me to say what follows.

Sir, I do not like you. I don’t like the fact that you’re the epitome of the career politician, a long-tenured Senator with no clue as to what makes this country run.

Time after time, you have demonstrated your ignorance of the role of the Federal government under the Constitution. You have sought directly to undermine the Constitution with ill-conceived and even disastrous legislation like the so-called “Campaign Finance Reform” act.

You are NOT the best the GOP had to offer. I would far rather have seen Mitt Romney or Fred Thompson, men of industry and business who have demonstrated the time-honored concept of stepping out of the private sector FOR A TIME to render service to country, bearing the standard of your party. Mitt Romney single-handedly has contributed more to the U.S. economy through jobs and wealth creation than all the idiotic legislative efforts you ever have or ever will sponsor - yet all you could say about it was that Gov. Romney “cost some people their jobs.”

You’re just the poster-child for what is wrong with Washington.

Okay, now that I’ve vented, I’ll now tell you why I’ve donated money to your campaign and will donate more.

Hillary! or Obama must be stopped. The modern Democrat party cannot be allowed to occupy the White House. We’ve had quite enough of the Clintons and their filthy, dirty corrupt brand of politics, and someone like Barak Obama will likely get a lot of Americans killed.

You do understand the terrorist threat, and you do understand the importance of a strong America, economically and militarily, to counter the threat of the rising evil in this world. You know that “sitting down to chat” with someone like Ahmadinejad would be the height of blithe ignorance and naivete.

You have served this nation faithfully and well as a naval aviator. You are an honorable man, though tainted by your long dalliance with the Washington power center. I can hope that you will surround yourself with good men, LIKE Gov. Romney (who graciously withdrew and threw his support to you, even after your nasty campaign tactics against him) and LIKE Mr. Thompson, to name but two, who will advise you as you discharge your duties as President, should that happen to fall to you.

I can only pray it will, for as much as I dislike much of what you represent, you shine like the brightest star in the firmament compared to the human debris that represents the best the Democrat party has to offer.

Good luck to you, sir. You have my money, and my vote, and I will do whatever I can to convince others to vote for you as well.

Godspeed, John McCain.

Decision ‘08: The Time Is Ripe For A TRUE Conservative!

Cthulhuelections-vi.gif

Now, just think how fast the illegal immigration problem will disappear when Cthulu gets hungry for Mexican food.

As for the War on Terror…well, Cthulu is the ultimate terror, of course, so any terrorist trying to bring down buildings in this country ever again will probably be too busy fighting for survival to plot the destruction of America.

I’m not sure what sorts of Supreme Court Justices Cthulu would appoint, but since the commencement of his reign will allow mankind to be “free and wild and beyond good and evil, with laws and morals thrown aside and all men shouting and killing and revelling in joy,” I guess it doesn’t much matter!

The downside of course will be the complete overthrow of the Constitution, but since things like freedom of religion (there will only be one) and of speech (who will dare say anything that might get him eaten instantly?) will also be moot, again, not much point.

One thing’s for certain, though: if you want a real conservative, who better than one of the Great Old Ones who existed before the beginning of time, and will make sure things really get back to what the “founders” intended. No more “Democrats,” that’s for sure, only meat on the hoof.

It’s Over

I’m sitting here at work, just doing my thing. The radio is on, I have it set to the NPR station, where momentarily the classical music will begin for the day. In the meantime, they have the “business” show Marketplace on. I’m only half paying attention, but they start this segment with former Olympic Swimmer Diana Nyad, a lesbian who is a “motivational speaker” and does “sports commentary” on San Francisco’s KCRW radio.

The topic is how “inappropriate” it was to have Allstate, the insurance company, sponsoring the NCAA’s “Bowl Championship Series” (BCS) football championship game in New Orleans, because “thousands of people were hurt by Allstate in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina.” She goes on to talk about how “devastated” New Orleans still is, and of course “big bad corporations” including Allstate are partly to blame for this (the ultimate culprit is Pres. Bush of course, but at least they didn’t go there in this segment).

I finally get so disgusted (and distracted) by the show that I switch it to the local “smooth jazz” station. And what do I immediately hear? A public-service announcement from HUD informing all those “displaced by Katrina” how to sign up for extension of benefits, to pay for housing, groceries, etc.

Okay, it’s more than two years ago now, and we’re all still picking up the tab for this. And we can’t get away from it. the PSA goes on and on about how you “don’t want to have to struggle to make ends meet, call now and get the assistance you need.”

That’s when it hit me: It’s all over. We’re LIVING in the socialist utopia that the Dems and others on the Left have wanted for so long. The Republicans are now socialists, and the Democrats are EXTREME socialists. Corporations are evil, John McCain says we have to control them, especially the pharmaceutical companies.

It really doesn’t matter who’s President. We can elect McCain, we can elect Hillary!, we can elect anybody, and the course will continue. Congress will keep passing laws raising our taxes and giving money to the “less fortunate,” and whoever is President is bound to sign it; that’s what’s been happening all along, all the rhetoric aside.

There’s not a darn thing any of us can do about it, either. Talk about electing a “third party candidate,” and that’s about all you’ve accomplished: Talking.

I’m in a terribly bad mood for a Friday, I can tell you.

Fool Me 5.2 Times…

Microsoft outlines what’s coming in Windows Mobile 7, 8 by ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley — Microsoft isn’t offering up any dates or final product names, but it is breaking with Windows Mobile tradition and is talking about future features for Windows Mobile 6.1, 7 and 8.

Now, heres’ what I want to know: My AT&T/Cingular Samsung Blackjack has Windows Mobile 5.2 on it, which is quite awkward in many respects. But there appears to be NO WAY you can upgrade to a later version of Windows Mobile unless your wireless carrier AND the maker of your phone “allow” it.

So what good does it do to know about these newer versions when you can’t use them unless you upgrade your phone…

…Hey, wait just a gosh-darn minute!

Skeptical Scientists Urge World To ‘Have the Courage to Do Nothing’ At UN Conference

(N.B. I particularly like the graphic in the header at the top of this webpage of the Senate “Environment & Public Works” blog, showing kids - in helmets of course - cycling, skating, etc. Very heartwarming.
